Personal Business Letters (when you have met the person)

Structure:

1) Greeting

2) Opening mentioning feelings about the last contact

3) The main message

4) The close mentioning future plans and often some personal information

5) The standard personal close: Best wishes / yours

 

In informal business letters (when you know the person very well - when you are friends or relatives):

- do not put the addressee's address

- start with the addressee's first name

- may use contactions (I'll / We've /You'd / Hadn't / Isn't ....

- use short direct sentences

-sign with your first name and do not write your full name under the signature

Cliches in personal letters:

It was good to...

It was a pity that...

I am sorry that...

It was very interesting to hear about...

I was pleased to hear that...
